This is an outpatient procedure that involves the removal of superficial veins through small, slit-like incisions in the skin. There are four steps in this procedure:
Marking the veins to be treated.
Injecting local anaesthesia around the bulging veins.
Removal of the bulging veins, segment by segment, through small incisions.
Wearing compression stockings for two weeks.
A phlebactomy can be performed or in conjunction with sclerotherapy. The procedure is minimally painful, with little or no scarring.
